Alva Curtis

Alva Curtis is known as the first inn keeper.  He first opened an inn in his house, which was located at the top of Mill Hollow hill. He then operated the Temperance Inn at near Mill Hollow hill. “No visitors welcome on the Sabbath” the sign read. He was also one of the first proprietors in town, carrying the dry goods shipped from the East. Young daughter Calista Curtis is buried at the Brownhelm Cemetery, of the early ones to perish.
