Charles Whittlesey

Charles Whittlesey arrived with Col. Brown in 1816 and stayed to clear the property so as a cabin could be erected before the next year.  Whittlesey became distinguished not only as a colonel in the Civil war, but as an archaeologist and historian.  He was the founder of the Western Reserve Historical Society and served as the organizational president until his death in October of 1886.
